Get the Most out of Your Massage

  • Avoid eating a meal right before a massage.
  • If it’s your first time at the clinic, arrive early so you can complete the necessary forms. Otherwise, you may want to give yourself some time to rest and relax before starting the massage.
  • At certain times during the massage, you may feel some discomfort or even some pain as the massage therapist works on areas where there are adhesions or scar tissue. If it’s a “good” pain and you’re comfortable with that, it’s okay
  • Pain isn’t necessarily good, and it’s not a sign that the massage will be effective. In fact, your body may tense up in response to pain, making it harder for the therapist to reach deeper muscles. Also, the results may be minimal and could leave you very sore.
  • You should always tell your massage therapist if you feel pain during the massage. The therapist can adjust the technique or further prep the tissues if the superficial muscles are tense.
  • Be aware that massage is usually not a one-stop fix for your chronic issues. More than one visit may be necessary.

Deep Tissue Massage/Therapeutic Massage

  • Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle “knots” or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Sports Massage

  • Sports massage is a systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body that focuses on muscles relevant to a particular sport

Prenatal Massage

  • Prenatal massage is a type of massage therapy specifically designed for pregnant women. Prenatal massage may help relieve some of the aches and pains of pregnancy. But it does have some risks; it isn’t suitable for every person or every pregnancy.
  • Pain Relief
  • Reduced swelling
  • Better Sleep
  • Relaxation and Stress Reduction
  • Special cushions are used to allow laying facedown. In certain circumstances, treatment is applied lying on your side, rather than using the cushions.

"My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Hilsabeck for only a few short months, but the progress has been amazing! He takes the time to listen on why you're there, explains what he is doing and how the treatments will benefit, and gives easy but manageable at home pain management tips. Highly recommend to many out there."
